On music.
I. One of the most missed commoditiy in army life is decent(in my tase, anyway) music. It is not that music per se is non-existent here. It is that only certain form of popular music is available in unneeded abundance. People have TV tuned to MTV almost 24/7, but one of my particular musical tase is completely unbale to find a drop of classical music in a sea of people singing in TV.
II. No, I do not wish to be a snob. I am past the age when you think that musical taste reflects overall level of cultural refinement. It is just that I like my own musical tase(certain mix of J-pop, soundtracks, classical music, 70s Jazz, et cetera) and wish not to force them on anyone else, nor to have any one force theirs down my delicate throat. But the latter is the exact description of my present musical envrionment.
III. The worst part is that my musical sub-consciousness is being invaded. I find some alien & distasteful melody sung by a bunch of mindless girls floating down my formerly cleanly kep stream of consciousness. I have absolutely no wish to hum such songs, nor keep any part of their lyrics & elody in my limited number of nerve cells. But keep listening to them day and night, they will do so on their own volition without a shred of deference for your free will.
IV. In a nutshell, the problem is not about music. It is about privacy. I'm not misanthrope, but I am a person who err on the side of introspection. I can bear a situation where I share a room with 20 people, but I doubt that I will ever find myself enjoying it. I just wish to be left alone in peace to enjoy my own blend of cultural porducts, mixed according to my own epcuilar taste. I do not wish to have my consciousness resembling a stripmall parking lot blazing with muzak. I want to be able to mold it to my own liking, which unfortunately requires ability to mold my own environment.
That...would require time and persistence I am not sure I can supply.
Smaller nutshell : I gotta get out of here
